After years of experience working in conjunction with the states’ culinary curriculum, the principals of Piece of Cake Bakers realized the challenge faced by adults with disabilities seeking a career in the baking field.
Although many adult students with disabilities are eligible and approved for training and employment services, appropriate formal employment training and internship options are extremely limited. As a result, many of the students—who want to pursue employment in the baking field so that they may become contributing members of society—cannot continue needed formal employment training.
The ideal program would include not only industry-level training but also hands-on experience on a day-to-day basis and key industry contacts that eventually leads to employment.
